Dance Moms

Finally, Dance Moms is back! One of my favorite reality shows Dance Moms aired it's season five premiere on Tuesday of last week on Lifetime. To be honest I did not know that it was going to return when it did so when I heard the news a couple days before I was so excited, and could hardly contain myself, and could not wait for Tuesday...well, actually Wednesday, because by the time I get home from practice it's too late.

Anyways, Dance Moms kicked off with a one hour premiere, and there were a few changes I noticed. The first, Chloe was not there. I heard rumors that she had quit the show, but I was hoping that they were not true. Chloe has been my favorite since the beginning of the show, and now that she's gone I'm not sure if I'll keep watching. Another thing is that Kalani came back onto the show, and I was actually happy, because I knew that her mother would add drama to the show with the whole Maddie vs. Kalani situation. The last thing that I noticed was that Abby lost weight.

Watching the show it just didn't feel the same, and this season I began to realize how repetitive the show really is. At least once an episode Abby gets yelled at by a mom for treating her kid unfairly in some way, there is always something wrong with the group dance, and Maddie either gets a solo or a special part in the group dance which upsets the mom.

Watching the show I began to wonder why the moms stay, and after all of Abby's complaining she hasn't kicked them off the team. Episode after episode mothers complain how rude Abby is to the kids, and how unfairly they are treated. I mean sometimes the moms will step in, and say something, but by the next episode they're fine. How could a mom let their kid be exposed to that kind of rude behavior that they complain about. For their reputation? The money? A contract with Lifetime? or because they trust Abby with their kids? Also, I wondered why do we watch this? Why do we find kids being yelled at by their dance teacher entertaining? Although, I'm not 100% sure of the answer I believe it's because of the thrill, and anticipation that the arguments give us, and also I believe that we love it, because it gives us something to talk about. I can't tell you how many times I've screamed at the tv, talked about Abby with friends, and my mom, and the show creates a bond fans.

Overall, the seasons seems to be filled with catty drama, and competition like it usually is, and I'm excited to see the show unfold.

 Honey Boo Boo

Recently one of the most stupid, and one of the best reality shows (at least according to me,) Honey Boo Boo was cancelled. Although the news about this was released a while ago I didn't hear it until recently. When I heard the news I was actually upset, because it was one of my favorite  shows that I would watch whenever I felt down, and needed a pick-me-up. It was one of the most grotesque shows I've ever seen yet it was one of the best, because it was hilarious, and it baffled that they were a real family, and that the show wasn't scripted, or planned. Not only that, but at the end of the day they were a family, and you could tell that no matter what they loved each other and I thought that was cool, because you don't see that "loving family" aspect on many reality shows today.

June also known as "Mama" admitted that she was in a relationship with a man who was a previous child molester, and when TLC heard about this they cancelled the show. I personally agree, and respect what TLC did by cancelling the show, because it shows that the daughters well being is more important then views, and money they are making from the show. Even if the man wasn't a threat to the girls it still showed that TLC doesn't believe in airing a man who was once involved in that behavior. I respect that they cancelled the show for that reason, because now a days not every show would.

When I heard the news I was also confused, and upset, because I wanted to know what happened to Sugar Bear. Did they break up? Was she cheating on him? I guess we will never know, but everyone who watches the show can agree that he was a great dad, and a great character on the show.  Although TLC is thinking about restarting the show as long as the man is not on it, and out of the girls' life, because they don't want to promote child molestation. I believe if the show comes back on they will lose views. I believe they will lose views, because even though "Mama" is no longer associated with a child molester she was, and those topics don't sit well with people.

Although this was one of my favorite shows I again respect the decision TLC made, and if the show does come back on I can assure you I'll be watching it every week.

The Bachelor

Last night at exactly 7:00 I quickly turned the channel to ABC to watch the season premiere of The Bachelor eager to watch the drama unfold. The Bachelor which is a reality show in which 25 women go on dates with one guy, go on dates, and fight for his love amongst the other girls. Already from the description the show probably sounds cheesy...and it is, but I decided to tune in, and watch for two reasons. The first being that the bachelor Chris is a farmer from my home state of Iowa, and also, because there are so many woman fighting for one guy there is ton of drama.
While watching the show I began to wonder many things. The first thing is can someone find "true" love from 25 women from all over the world. I mean sure you can like them, and think you want to be with them, but do they really want to. Over the course of The Bachelor they travel to beautiful, exotic places, and go on fancy dates, but what happens when it goes back to normal. What will happen when the cameras are off, and they're back on his farm in Iowa, or wherever she lives? Would they be willing to sacrifice their jobs, friends, and family to move across the country to live with their husband/wife. All of these things have come into play during the show, and are reasons why some have broken up. Yes, some couples have worked out, and still are married, but the majority did not.
The next thing I thought about while watching the premiere was how many of these girls are picked, because they're crazy, obsessive, dramatic, and will add more drama to the show. Last night there was this girl on the show, and I'm not quite sure what her name was, but she spent the whole night talking about an onion that turned out to be a pomegranate? I'm not really sure what was going on, but he kept her on. I mean maybe there was more to her that the camera didn't show, but it made me wonder if they kept her on the show for the craziness that could possibly unfold. Either way I will definitely be interesting to see how she unfolds during the season.

American Horror Story

Being the Netflix junkie that I am I've seen it all. I've seen so many Grey's Anatomy episodes that I could perform a heart surgery. I've seen enough of The Office to know what NOT to do at work, and then I decided to (just as everyone else has) watch American Horror Story. American Horror Story is a television show that airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on FX. Every season of the show has a different plot, characters, and story line, but most of the actors/actresses remain the same. The first season was just the original, the second asylum, the third coven, and the fourth which is airing now is Freakshow. Just to give you an idea on how good I thought the show was...I finished all three seasons in three days. Being that they are currently in the middle of a season I have to wait until all episodes have recorded on my DVR.

You may have guessed by the title American Horror Story it can get pretty scary. Personally the first season was my favorite, and I personally felt that season by season they have become less scary, but the storyline is still intriguing, and I continue to watch even if it's not as scary as I thought it would've been. Also, let's be honest Evan Peters definitely makes the show worth watching.

As I was watching the show (sometimes with hands over my eyes) I questioned why I was watching the show in the first place. Why do I, and most people enjoy watching horror shows/movies I mean if I wanted to go to the bathroom instead of watching American Horror Story why wouldn't I just eat more prunes or drink lots of liquids? Why are scary things such a huge part of our culture? We glorify houses where there have been "paranormal activity," and everyone is eager to visit that house for who knows what reason. During Halloween we go to haunted houses pay a ridiculously expensive fee just to have people chase you around with chainsaws, and jump out of cornfields at you.

It's obvious that our culture has adapted into becoming huge adrenaline junkies. Skydiving, Bungee Jumping, Swimming with Sharks, because we love to "feel alive," and that rush you get from being so anxious, and when it's all said and done you're eager, and wanting to do it again. I believe that American Horror Story does the same thing. It has us on the edge of our seats anticipating the pop-outs of an axe murderer, and when the episode is over it leaves us feeling eager to watch the next.
